WILCO @ Keyspan Park, Coney Island with Yo La Tengo joined by Feist and Ed Droste 7-13-09

WILCO at Keyspan Park, Coney Island 7-13-09
WILCO played an amazing show at Coney Island last night. In my opinion, they are easily the tightest live band touring today. This was the most intense show I have seen them play yet.

Tweedy didn't talk much, but he did seem really happy the whole show. Feist came out during the encore, and sang You and I, and then stayed on while Ed Droste, lead singer of Grizzly Bear joined them for "California Stars" off of Mermaid Avenue, an album named after a block just a stones throw from the the venue. Droste didn't really add much to the mix, just some awkward maraca shaking.

Openers, Yo La Tengo came out and joined WILCO during the encore for a crazy 12 minute long Spiders (kidsmoke) which turned the volume up higher than the rest of the show.

Here are a few photos from the show:

MIchael Jackson Graffiti

I came across this on my way to work yesterday morning. It was located on 7th avenue around 29th street.
I like it for its simple yet effective design, as it looks like it was done with just a paint roller.

Cursive at Mercury Lounge

Cursive played my favorite small venue, Mercury Lounge on Tuesday night.
They played their new unreleased album in its entirety. Good stuff. And then finished off the night with material from Happy Hollow and The Ugly Organ.
